We had such a great time last year with our 2006 trip, http://miceksgreatescape.blogspot.com/, we really wanted to do it again. Life conspired to make it possible, but not with the certainty that allowed us to plan as far in advance as we had in 2006. On our 2006 Great Escape we pretty much had the itinerary confirmed by the end February. With kids activities, work concerns and other factors coming into play, we didn't settle on an actual departure date until about a week before.
While we have a good idea of where we are going, we don't know exactly when we will get there or where we will stay or who we will see. This is causing a fair degree of concern from my well organized wife, who can't believe we are going, without knowing if we have a place to stay or not. Those who know me, know that I often "fly by the seat of my pants", so, I am not really out of my element. Time will tell and hopefully we will have as good a time as last year.
Our highly uncertain itinerary puts us with a long drive from Phoenix, North through Nevada into Northwest California and up along the coast of Oregon and Washington. We will hit all the National Parks we can along the way,trying to get the maximum return from our $80 park pass investment, including Lassen Volcanic, Redwoods, Olyimpic, North Cascade, Mt. Rainier and Crater Lake National Parks. We will also be visiting family and friends along the way.
